Doctoral Research Methodology

Designing studies, developing instruments & analyzing at doctoral level.

The methodological foundation of doctoral research. Causal and longitudinal design, the construction and validation of research instruments, and the analytical procedures required for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Courses:

  • Research Design for Doctoral Research
  • Measurement and Instrument Development
  • Advanced Quantitative Analysis
  • Advanced Qualitative Analysis
  • Mixed Methods, Triangulation and Research Integration

Research Proposal

Identifying the gap, defining the questions & establishing the framework.

The blueprint of the entire doctoral project. A proposal of 50 pages establishing the relevance of the research, identifying the research gap, and setting out the objectives and research questions, the methodological approach, the theoretical framework and the expected findings. Developed under the guidance of a professional and experienced supervisor and approved by the Research Committee before the research begins.

Requirements: A research proposal of 50 pages, approved by the Research Committee

Peer-Reviewed Publications

Conducting studies, meeting review standards & publishing results.

Three empirical articles in peer-reviewed academic journals, 5,000 to 8,000 words each, in English. Each article presents original empirical data and analysis and passes independent scientific review – the standard by which research is measured in every academic field. Established partner journals are available for publication, and the supervisor advises on the placement of each article.

Requirements: Three empirical articles of 5,000 to 8,000 words published in peer-reviewed academic journals

International Academic Conferences

Presenting research, engaging in academic debate & publishing proceedings.

One international conference per academic year. The doctoral researcher presents a topic within the scope of the conference, participates in the academic discussion, and publishes a full paper in the conference proceedings.

Requirements: Three conference presentations, each followed by a full paper published in the conference proceedings

Research Colloquium

Presenting progress, receiving guidance & exchanging with peers.

Twice a year the research is presented to the Research Committee and to the other doctoral researchers. The Committee provides scientific guidance and ensures the project develops in a sound direction, while the discussion among doctoral researchers surfaces questions and methodological solutions that can arise in every project.

Requirements: Six colloquium presentations before the Research Committee, with peer feedback and academic discussion

Academic Lecturing

Lecturing to students, supervising research & consolidating expertise.

Academic lecturing experience as part of doctoral training. Guest lectures in bachelor's or master's programs, together with the supervision of student research projects – the lecturing record expected of a doctoral graduate entering academic or advisory work.

Requirements: Guest lectures in bachelor's or master's programs and supervision of student research

Doctoral Dissertation

Conducting research, arguing rigorously & contributing to the field.

The central scientific work. 150 pages of empirical research, based on a mixed-methods or triangulated applied design, developed from the approved proposal and supported by the studies published during the program. Throughout the writing process the doctoral researcher works with a professional and experienced supervisor, in regular consultation and at every stage of the work.

Requirements: A dissertation of 150 pages based on empirical mixed-methods or triangulated applied research

Dissertation Defense

Presenting findings, responding to examination & completing the doctorate.

The concluding examination. The findings of the dissertation are presented and defended before the academic committee, covering the methodological approach, the results and the decisions taken throughout the research. Preparation for the defense is guided by the supervisor, and the six colloquiums have provided the practice.

Requirements: Presentation and defense of the dissertation findings before the academic committee
